4^th International Forum for Young Composers

 Wishing to go on exploring new and varied musical styles and aesthetics, the Ensemble Aleph organizes in 2005-2006, the Fourth International Forum for Young Composers.

The Forum aims to promote artistic exchanges between composers and performers.

 - Composition Guidelines:

Submitted works should be of maximum 7’ duration, and should be scored for 5 to 7 musicians from the following line-up (the performances are undirected):

Dominique Clément            Clarinet (A, B flat, E flat, bass, contrabass)

Lutz Mandler                      Trumpet, piccolo trumpet, Alp horn, didgeridoo

Sylvie Drouin                      Piano or chromatic accordion
                                (see Chromatic_Accordeon)
                                         or Synthesiser Fatar SL 880 - 88 keys and Sampler Akai S 2002
                                         NB: 2 of these instruments can be included in the same piece

Jean-Charles François          Percussion (Percussion list : vibraphone fa2 - fa5, marimba 5 octaves, glockenspiel, 4 tom - toms, 1 bass drum,
                                         1 side drum, 2 bongos, 1 tumba, 1 conga, 4 suspended cymbals , 1 hi - hat, 1 tam tam, 1 medium Thai gong ,
                                         5 temple blocks, 4 wood blocks, 1 log drum, small percussions and   accessories.)
                                         NB : all score including other percussion instruments will be rejected

 10 works will be selected in April, 2006, perhaps including 2 mixed pieces, associating electronics to the musicians (see details)

 - Entries must be postmarked by December, 31st, 2005

- Please enclose a CV and complete contact details (birth date, address, phone, fax, e-mail) with your application.

- Age limit: 40 years old (born after January, 1^st, 1966)

- A reading panel, formed by the members of the Ensemble Aleph, will select the musical works (the list will be available on the website on May 2006).

- The 10 selected composers will be the guests of a residency in July 2006 at the European Center for the Arts “KunstForum Hellerau” in Dresden (Germany) for music sessions with the Ensemble Aleph. This summer session will end with a preview concert. A Logbook, including the recording of the 10 pieces will be distributed to the audience before each concert. The 10 musical works will be performed in The Netherlands (Gaudeamus) in September, 2006, in Nice (France) during the festival “Manca” in November 2006, after another rehearsal session at the Theatre Dunois in Paris in November 2006, in Salzburg (Austria) during the festival “Aspekte” in March, 2007 and in Viitasaari (Finland) during the festival “Time of Music”.
